I recently had the honor of capturing some awesome memories of a family growing by one! Introducing baby Nina Mae! She was delivered into this world by hot air balloon custom designed by Kiera Slye Photography! (I know amazing right?). Nina was the perfect little baby model, sleeping through most of our entire session!
This gave us ample time to practice bringing the whole family into the picture (including the canine type). With plenty of dog treats and Pepperidge Farm Gold Fish, we were able to wrangle the older “siblings” all together for these fabulous shots! The art of photographing children, newborns, and pets (separate and together) relies primarily on treats, patience, acceptance, and embracing the character of your little one at that moment in their lives. I strive to capture the fun of the moment and keep the energy light. I also believe it is so important to remember to include your first born “children” (your pets) in your portraits as much as possible. Unfortunately, they aren’t here on this earth as long, but leave just as lasting impressions in our hearts and lives. Here are some of the fun shots we achieved during our “treat” session of the siblings interacting for the portrait shoot. These are simply some of my favorite images.
After our fun of animal and human child wrangling, we turned our attention to highlighting the VIP in the room, baby Nina Mae. Here she is at 7 days old. Such a sweet little angel.
Nina’s grandparents were in town to help out after she was born. We took this opportunity to include them in the photo session as well. The result were these precious moments:
This series of images made me cry when I saw them after taking them. Some of my favorite moments to capture are the quiet moments between mom and baby. Take a look for yourself.
No shoot of mine is complete without a few candid shots of the new family interacting. Mom’s are amazing creatures! I am always blown away by their ability to multi-task and maintain balance. Can’t wait to come back when Dad isn’t taking the bar exam and capture images of the entire family together!
Finally, I’d like to take a second to thank some friends of mine who have helped me to grow my portrait session props and enhance my images immensely! First I’d like to thank Emily Palmer, a friend from high school (yes, we graduated 10 years ago this year! ACK!). We recently reconnected through Facebook. I saw that she was posting adorable pictures of her sweet red headed daughter Hailey wearing some fantastic hand made hats! I was so excited to find out that Emily had started a business of making these hats and is now selling them online through her Etsy store: Lil Red Hearts. We have teamed up together now and have arranged a photography/prop exchange. All of the props of hers that I photograph are for sale on her site! She also custom designs pretty much anything you can think of that involves crocheting, embroidery, and knitting! Check her out today!
I would also love to thank my dear friend Erin Harris. Check out her blog here. Erin has an adorable daughter named Ella (who has modeled for me before), and is currently expecting baby number 2 in June! I personally think she’s having a boy, but we are all waiting for the surprise when he or she is born! Stay tuned to see images from our mommy and me shoot in April and the newborn session in June. Anyway, Erin is also extremely talented. She is a master quilter and also a super crafty mama. She whipped up this adorable baby cocoon and matching hat for me. We have another one in deep purple to use for an upcoming newborn session too.
Thank you both ladies for all of your help. You are fabulous friends and I am jealous of your talent! I hope you enjoyed these photographs! Let me know what you think!
